Krishna vs Kaliya Naag

One nice and sunny day Krishna and his friends were playing with a ball near the Yamuna river. Suddenly while they were playing he heard the cries of the villagers who were seeking help.

Krishna came to the and asked, “what happened? The woman cried with fear. “Help! Help!!, my son slipped into the river. This is where the Kaliya Naag lives. He is going to kill me son, please save him.”

‘Who is the Kaliya Naag” asked one of Krishna’s friends.

“The Kaliya Naag is a huge Venomous snake who used to live besides the Ramanka Dwipa. But he was forced to leave because he was afraid of Garuda-the mount of Lord Vishnu”. ”Kaliya Naag knows that Garuda is cursed and cannot enter Vrindhavan so now he hides here so Garuda can’t get him.

While the Villagers were explaining, Krishna was busy looking at the water. The water had turned black because of Kaliya Naag’s venom even though the entire Yamuna river was blue, it turned black wherever Kaliya naag rested. 

Without hesitation, Krishna jumped into the river to save the child and teach Kaliya a lesson. As soon as Krishna entered he saw Kaliya holding the little boy in his massive tail. “Let the boy go!” said Krishna, “There is no point harming this child, I am here to teach you a lesson”. “Ha, Ha, Ha!, you are here to teach me a lesson!” said Kaliya trying to mock Krishna. “Very well, I want to see what you have to offer to me” and he then freed the child.

Kaliya then launched an attack on Krishna but Krishna was too fast and managed to dodge all his attacks. He tried and tried but Kaliya could not catch Krishna and then he became frustrated. He finally grabbed Krishna with his huge tail but Krishna managed to free himself without any effort. He climbed onto the snake and stood on his head while holding his tail. He then pulled out his flute and started to perform a cosmic dance on top of the serpent's head. Krishna managed to put the entire weight of the universe to his feet, crushing Kaliya underneath. Kaliya realised that Krishna was not an ordinary boy, but the incarnation of the Supreme Lord Vishnu. 

Kaliya was about to die under the weight when his wives came and begged Krishna to show mercy on their husbands. “Oh Lord Krishna, we are so sorry we didn’t recognise you earlier, please spare our husbands lives, we know what they did was wrong and we will never do anything like this ever again!”. “I will forgive him under one condition” said Krishna “Many farmers bring their cattle here to drink and it is not right for you to poison the water like this”. “I want you all to go back and Garuda will never harm you again because he will see my footprints on your head” said Krishna. Kaliya Naag and his wives obeyed Krishna and left Vrindhavan forever, making the waters of the Yamuna river, pure as earlier.
