John and the New House

I was sitting in my room brainstorming all the cons of moving houses. I showed my parents and tried to put some sense into their heads about why we should not move houses.

OK, before I spit out anything else I would like to tell you more about me. My name is John Murphy. I am 13 years old and currently in the 8th grade. My dad’s name is Dominic, and he owns an alcohol shop called DM Liquor. My mom's name is Stacey, and she owns a Coffee shop called Murphy’s Coffee.

Why we should not move

  1. Different people, that we may never get to know
  2. Switching to a different job can cause a big hassle and lots of unnecessary stress and quitting the shops both of you folks started.
  3. New School causes money to be spent unnecessarily even though my school does the same thing. (Worst of them all)

But somehow my parents never understood my reasoning. They just laughed and said that the decision was final and there was no turning around. My body shattered as I heard them say we were still moving, and I was filled with emotions. Without a word, I slowly went to my room and fell on my bed. To be honest, I have never seen this house, but I know that if my parents love it then I will hate it.

6 days until the move

There are only 6 more days until the move, and I realized that I will never get to see this house, my friends, and the park ever again. That I will have no friends for the rest of my life. We have already started putting things into boxes! I heard my dad on the phone with the house removalist, and I saw my mom putting our furniture into groups, so the house removalists know which to take.

5 days until the move

5 days are still left, and My mom told our relatives about my family and I moving has already got out. My Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, and Grandparents started to show up to our house and give us “going away” baskets with some junk inside them. I am quite sure it is just stuff they do not want in their house, so they just thought they could give it to us as “a gift.” In fact our whole spare room is full of those useless “going away” baskets!

4 days until the move

I cannot believe there are only 4 more days until we need to move houses. My tension is starting to grow, and I am starting to grow, and I am even getting grey hair. I am not eating properly, I cannot sleep, I cannot pay attention to all my surroundings. All I can think about is how the house will look like, if the neighborhood is nice or not, how the school will be, if I would ever have friends again. I can go on forever. The schoolkids might be so mean and hard that I might have to be homeschooled, and the neighborhood will hate our family so much that I may not be able to go outside. I might need to start taking Vitamin D tablets because I will not be able to go in the sun and receive sunlight! Oh dear.

3 days until the move

I have not been myself lately and I am daydreaming all the time. I got in trouble 3 times because I was daydreaming. My parents keep telling me that “it’s all right” and “It will be fine,” but I know that they are wrong. I decided to tell one of my friends because I needed to get this weight off my chest. So, I went to my best friend’s house, Michael S’ven and told him everything. He seemed extremely shaken up and sad, and I told him that he could not tell anyone about this, and I made him promise me. He then promised me that he would not.

2 days until the move

It was obvious that he could not deal with the information I gave him yesterday because today everyone came up to me feeling sad and asking me, why am I moving and each time I said the same thing. “Because it was a decision my parents made without asking for my opinion.” It started to get very annoying, but I tried my hardest to stay cool. My state has been getting worse day by day and I do not know what to do about it. I keep thinking that I am dreaming but everything is just too real to be a dream.

Last day until the move

This is really the last day until we move to our new house. A wave of emotions is drowning me, and I am starting to really freak out. Now there is no point telling my parents that I do not want to move because it is too late and nothing can change their minds. School was pretty much the same as yesterday except that everyone was sadder, and I could do nothing about it. I have been praying to God more than usual, to help me survive the move. I mean, I have been living here all my life. I decided to call all my friends to the park for a final gathering, and we played one last game of cricket together like we always did after school. This was it; this was our final gathering. Everyone seemed incredibly sad and emotional; I said goodbye to my friends for the last time and returned home. I was going to miss my friends. I certainly hope I get to see all of them in the Future.

The move part 1

That is, it, today is the day, I still cannot believe that we are moving. As all our furniture and belongings were getting loaded into the truck, I had butterflies in my stomach. I got in the car and sat there quietly the whole time. We entered our new neighborhood, I was trembling in fear. As we got closer and closer to our new house, I was practically hyperventilating. I closed my eyes, but I knew I was going to have to see the terror in front of me, and...

The move part 2

As we parked in front of our new house and on the outside, the house seemed genuinely nice, it looked very spacious and was a 2 Storey house. As I exited the car, our next-door neighbors introduced themselves to my family and I and they all seemed genuinely nice. They then gave us welcome baskets (Which meant more junk). It turns out to be closer to both my mom’s and dad’s shops. At first, I was surprised and confused but then I figured it out. I started to think I might have overreacted to the fact that we were moving. I was sadder about leaving my friends and my hometown as I spent my whole life until now, there.

1st day after the move

Today's the first day since we moved houses and we spent the entire day just unpacking boxes. I decided to take a picture of the house before we settled in and after we settled in so I could see how much of our belongings filled the house. While we were unpacking, a couple of families in our neighborhood started to show up and introduce themselves to my parents. Some of them had kids my age, and I started to hang out with them, and they became my friends. One friend named Jax Reynolds invited me to come to the park so we could play with his other friends. I asked him what they play, and he said that they play cricket. I could not believe it; my new friends also play cricket every day after school. I said yes and I enjoyed the whole afternoon with my new friends.

2nd day after the move

It is now the second day since we moved, and it was better than I originally expected. The students and teachers at my new school were kind and welcoming; I made some friends, and a nice friend named Rodger Williams. He and some of my other friends lived on the same street as me and they invited me to come to the park with them. Honestly, things are better than I thought, and I misunderstood this whole moving situation.

I know this sounds corny but what I learnt is that before you judge something, make sure to see everything from different perspectives no matter how badly you do not want to. It is particularly important to never judge a book by its cover. I look forward to what tomorrow holds.
