John and the Dog Part 2
After Stewart left, I continued walking towards Rodger’s house. When I got to his house, I rang the doorbell and Rodger answered the door. I told him that I found his missing dog. At first, he was happy, but when he looked at the dog, he told me that it was not his. He said that there was another “O'Connell street,” and that the dog could be theirs. I searched on google maps and sure enough, there was another “O'Connell street,” and it was like a 2 hour walk to get there.
OK, before I spit out anything else I would like to tell you more about me. My name is John Murphy. I am 13 years old and currently in the 8th grade. My dad’s name is Dominic, and he owns an alcohol shop called DM Liquor. My mom's name is Stacey, and she owns a Coffee shop called Murphy’s Coffee.
I was walking towards another street after my friend; Rodger Williams told me that this Dachshund was not his dog but another person's because there are two O’Connell streets.”
As I left Rodger’s house, I was surprised when he told me that this dog was not his. But I knew that I must give this dog back to its rightful owner, no matter how far it is. I felt like I was on a quest where I had to save this dog and make sure that he got back home. Even though it felt like a quest, it was still a boring walk to “4 O’Connell Street”, but I still had the dog keep me company throughout the walk.
We made a few stops on the way to the dog’s home. We stopped at the park, because I could tell the dog needed to use the bathroom again. I let the dog do its business but this time it had to do No.2. No way, I was going to pick that up, so I waited until the coast was clear and sprinted out of the park. I seriously hope no one saw that because that was kind of embarrassing.
We then stopped by the Lake because, by then, I was tired. I sat down, closed my eyes, and listened to nature. I was holding the leash very softly, and because I was holding it very softly, the dog managed to escape, and he dashed away from me. I had to sprint with all my might and eventually I found the dog near the dog park. Luckily, no one noticed him otherwise my quest would have remained unfinished, and when I checked google maps, we were surprisingly closer to “4 O’Connell Street”.
I took another break near the shopping center and this time I held the leash firmly. I finally got to rest because by then I was extremely exhausted. Once I regained all my strength and stamina, I headed to the dog's house, and this time I did not take any rest or breaks.
I finally reached “4 O’Connell Street”, and it felt like my quest was finally finished. I walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. A Man in his 30’s answered the door and was happy and surprised that he finally found his dog. His dog was also wagging his tail and licking him. The man was thankful, and I was simply happy to help.
As I was heading back home, I realized that my dad would be home any minute. I decided to run back home, and as I did, I saw my dad’s car pull over and he told me that I could ride with him. As we were going home, he asked me what I was doing, so I then decided to tell him the whole story. When we got home, my mom asked me what I was doing the whole time. I then also told her the whole story on what happened, and she seemed happy that I returned a lost dog back to its owner. She then said that I did the right thing, but that I still had to help her with the chores for the full day tomorrow.
I decided to stay quiet and just say yes because I really don’t need to do this whole thing again. All I could say was that today was really an adventure and was also kind of fun, but I could never do this adventure again.
I know this sounds corny but what I learned today was that every day is a new day, a new beginning, and the start of a new adventure.
